Quality Assurance Through Thorough Inspections
Despite lower costs, we maintain high quality. Our technicians inspect all rotors thoroughly, including buckets, gaskets, and overspeed disks. Fixed angle rotors undergo detailed checks for body integrity, while swinging bucket rotors are tested for weight distribution. We replace lid gaskets and other hardware when needed before shipping. Whenever possible, we run each rotor in a compatible centrifuge to ensure functionality.
Applications of Rotors in Various Fields
Rotors paired with centrifuges serve various applications, such as clinical, blood banking, microbiology, and molecular biology. Generally, rotor size is inversely proportional to maximum speed capacity—larger rotors have lower speeds. Rotors come in materials like aluminum, titanium, and, more recently, carbon fiber for fixed angle designs.
Smaller swinging bucket rotors can handle rate-zonal and isopycnic separations in ultra-centrifuge settings. Larger models are ideal for processing large-volume samples, such as blood bags and tissue culture at lower speeds. These rotors also allow batch harvesting of whole cells.
Fixed angle rotors hold tubes at a set angle, causing the solution to reorient as the rotor spins. They're the most common and are used for basic pelleting tasks, such as bacteria or mammalian cell pelleting. Rotor efficiency is measured by the K factor, and fixed angle rotors are also suitable for isopycnic separations.
As expected, vertical or near-vertical rotors hold tubes upright during rotation. While not useful for pelleting, they excel at isopycnic separations and are common for DNA, RNA, and lipoprotein isolations.
